Protecting Digital Images – Watermarks

Photographers nowadays have a huge problem to protect their rights to images, especially on the Internet. One of the best ways to solve this problem with digital images is watermarking photographs. Watermarks are words or faint logo super-imposed over the top of the photographs. Why is this useful? No one would copy and use watermarked photograph without the permission. So, how can this be done? Watermarking photographs is quite easy with the right software. Some of them can be very expensive, but photographers can download free photo watermark software to check out this amazing opportunity to protect their photographs once and for all. Watermarking is very convenient way for protecting images because dozens of photographs can be watermarked within a few minutes. Adobe Photoshop, Digimarc.com, WaterMarque.com and Watermarker.com are some of the watermarking software options.

After providing yourself with the nice working software it is necessary to create your own watermark. There are several options to do this – copyright, image or text. Copyright symbol is not recommended, because anyone else can use it, so this does not protect your photos very much. If you have your own original logo, then it is good to use an image watermark – and superimpose it over the photograph. If you do not have logo, it is alright to place your business/company or your personal name as the watermark. Text description of the digital image can be also used as a text string watermark.

One thing should also be mentioned when talking about watermarks – they actually negatively affect the look of the images. A lot of photographers need some time to get used to watermarks, because watermarks do sit on the top of their work of art. So, before protecting photos this way, it is good to consider this factor also. High quality images without watermark may be astonishing, but the more beautiful they are, more people will publish it without your permission.

Surely many of these characteristics can be pretty useful in some situation but for majority of the part a good size of functions will be used occasionally or rarely you can say. This is very true in case of landscape photographer.
