4 Amazing Tips to Make the Most of Lightroom Presets

Posted by on June 4, 2017

Lightroom presetsLightroom presets are amazing tools that you can use for all your photos including your family photos and any other types of photos. Sometimes with just a click you can convert an image from its RAW state to a totally post-processed and finished photo, while some other times you can use a preset and get around 80%-90% finished, from where it’s only a few small adjustments to get a great looking image but the time saved by using the preset is truly valuable. Here are a few tips for making the most of Lightroom presets to get help in your workflow and generate awesome images.

1. Familiarize Yourself with the Presets

You will experience that the more time you spend with the presets, the more efficient they become. If you apply them rarely, you won’t get familiar with them. So, when time comes to use them, you have to search through them all to find the best suitable one which will take plenty of time (particularly if you have a lot of presets). When you use them regularly, you remember where each of them is, where your favorite ones are and how to have them quickly. You also know which ones will work best for particular images. This way your lot of time is saved and your workflow in Lightroom becomes indeed optimized.

2. Store Your Favorite Presets in a Separate Folder

You will come to know over time, that you use certain presets quite often. Create a separate folder to store these presets in it. Creating such a folder in the presets panel is simple, though not very intuitive if you are doing it for the first time. Remember, the + mark at the top right is not for creating a new folder but for new presets. Hover over your presets and right click, select New Folder and that’s it. Give the folder a name.

3. Feel Free to Fine Tune

The fact is that there is no preset that will work just as you want it for every photo; so, you will have to make some adjustments. An image can be made great or terrible in a lot of ways. If it doesn’t look just how you wanted it, play around with the sliders a little and you can get it just as you were hoping for.

4. Form Your Own

When you become well-acquainted with the presets, you will be increasingly comfortable tweaking and fine tuning them to your liking. With this, you will use specific looks again and again. Play around the awesome Lightroom presets you have, use them as a base, add to them, change them up, tear them and rebuild and then form your new presets which are all your own. This is not only an awesome learning process, but also a lot of fun!

So, use these tips to get the most out of your Lightroom presets and enjoy amazing photos.
