Tips on Night Photography

Photos captures during night are always more good looking and creative compared to daylight photos because of innovative lighting that brightens the scene. While shooting at night, you should always make sure to carry your tripod so that you can shoot at slow shutter speeds without shaking your camera, you will get blurry images when you shake your camera. Set your ISO to 400 and white balance should be set to Daylight.

Make sure to use self timer feature of your camera, it will prevent your camera from shaking that is caused by pressing the shutter release button.

You can use noise reduction feature, which is a good way to reduce digital noise in a file. But when you use this feature, it will slow down the time between shooting pictures. So, you should plan your shots carefully. Make sure you check your camera’s overexposure warning and histogram so that you can get a good exposure.

Blurring Night Lights

Blurring moving lights at night is one of the great effects that we can create in camera. By blurring the lights you will be able to take out some of the reality from the scene, and when you remove the reality, a photo become more artistic and creative.

Some instructions to follow in order to create best night photographs are as follows:

1. Place your camera on a solid tripod

2. Set the ISO of your camera to 100

3. Set your camera to TV mode and choose a shutter speed of 10 seconds or less.

4. Make sure to use self timer feature of your camera while taking the photo. It will prevent the blurry images due to camera shake.

5. Capture a shot, check overexposure warning on LCD monitor of your camera and also check the histogram to make sure that the lights are not washed out. Lights may get washed out in high contrast scenes sometimes.

6. Make sure to shoot extra pictures at various slow shutter speeds to see how you can enhance your images.
